OUR CBD

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is an active ingredient in cannabis derived from the hemp plant. It is one of over 80 naturally occurring compounds called cannabinoids found in cannabis plants.
Unlike the marijuana plant, hemp plants have little to no THC, so they can not get you high. There are no psychoactive effects. Healed NYC™ hemp products contain no THC. CBD is a desirable option for those who are looking for relief from symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or certain pharmaceutical drugs.

Healed NYC™ employs a proprietary engineering process to create its phytocannabinoid rich hemp oil products. Extraction methods maintain the full plant profile – ensuring customers a full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, and fatty acids from the natural plant, without the THC. Cold, enclosed, and continuous manufacturing processes prevents the degradation of natural molecules during extraction and purification.
Healed NYC™ uses a process called Nano-emulsification, in which we are able to take CBD and create nanoparticles of them that are so small, they can be absorbed into your bloodstream more efficiently than regular-sized particles of the same substance. Nanotechnology makes the particles water-soluble and extremely bio-available. The smaller particles created by nanotechnology mean enjoying better results and no more wasting 90% of the product.

Endocannabinoid System

The human body has its own system for processing and even creating its own cannabinoids known as the endocannabinoid system. In 1992, our body’s Endocannabinoid system (ECS) was discovered by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli organic chemist and professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. The ECS is the largest system in the body, it has more receptors than any other system. It is found throughout the brain and nervous system and promotes homeostasis across all of our systems. It affects everything from sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood, and even reproduction. The Endocannabinoid System helps modulate the regulation of homeostasis across all major body systems. All vertebrates and invertebrates are known to have an ECS.

When the Endocannabinoid System is functioning properly, all our various body systems are maintained in a state of dynamic equilibrium, or homeostasis. Cannabinoid receptors are found on the surface of our cells throughout our body.

There are two major cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2.

CB1 receptors are one of the most abundant receptor types in the brain. These interact with THC to get people high.

CB2 receptors are more abundant outside of the nervous system, in places like the immune system. However, both receptors can be found throughout the body.

Endocannabinoids are small molecules that activate cannabinoid receptors. They are natural cannabinoids that our body produces on its own.

Phytocannabinoids are produced by the cannabis plant. This includes things like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol), CBN (cannabinol), etc.

CBD oil works by reacting with the body’s cannabinoid receptors. These cannabinoid receptors make up the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for keeping the body in homeostasis. The effects of CBD are non-psychoactive and do not cause a high or intoxicating effect. Instead, CBD can promote relaxation, a sense of calm, and general wellbeing.

When & How to Take CBD

Depending on how your body reacts will influence when you may want to take CBD. If your feel relaxed and sleepy, you may want to consume your CBD in the evenings. If you find CBD helps with your stress, energy or cognitive skills, in the morning or early afternoon may be a good option. Many users take CBD in the morning and evening.

The effects of CBD last approximately for 4-6 hours depending on how you take it. The effects are felt faster with sublinguals (Healed NYC™ tinctures), whereas the effects are slower and longer lasting when CBD oil is ingested (Healed NYC™ capsules). Taking CBD on a daily basis is believed to produce the best results, as it keeps a regular level of CBD in your system.

Edible Consumption:

When most CBD products are ingested (edibles), they have to go through the digestive system, passing through the stomach and digestive tract. Our liver breaks down the CBD, leaving us with a lower absorption rate. While oral consumption methods do offer certain benefits, any substance consumed will have to pass through our metabolic and digestive systems, which will filter out a large portion of the CBD, drastically reducing its bioavailability, which is the degree and rate at which a substance that is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Sublingual Consumption (Healed NYC™ Tincture)

Under the tongue, there is a vein called the sublingual gland. When a substance is administered to the sublingual gland, it gets absorbed directly into the bloodstream, which is referred to as sublingual consumption or sublingual administration (sublingual is Latin for “under the tongue”). Because sublingual consumption is more direct, it impacts the body quicker than oral consumption and maintains higher availability, only being degraded from enzymes in the mouths saliva.

CBD bioavailability of sublingual consumption is significantly higher than oral (edible or vape) consumption.
When CBD oil is held under the tongue for 60 to 90 seconds before being swallowed, the mucus membranes in the mouth can absorb the compounds. There are many capillaries, or tiny blood vessels, under the tongue which transfer directly to the bloodstream. This sublingual method allows CBD to completely bypass the digestive system and liver metabolism, so the compounds can avoid being broken down by enzymes and reach the bloodstream quicker to interact with the endocannabinoid system. You can also swish it around your mouth before swallowing as the gum tissue also absorbs the CBD.

Healed NYC™ Nanotechnology Capsules

First-pass metabolism (also referred to as the first-pass effect) is a physiological phenomena in drug (plant extract) delivery science where the concentration of a compound is greatly reduced before it reaches systemic circulation. The drug is absorbed from the GI tract and passes via the portal vein into the liver where some drugs are metabolised. Sometimes the result of first pass metabolism means that only a proportion of the drug reaches the circulation. First pass metabolism can occur in the gut and the liver.

First-pass metabolism only affects the bioavailability of CBD when consumed orally. The first pass effect greatly decreases the bioavailability of CBD oil when swallowed. So, unfortunately, nearly all CBD-oil capsules that you see on the market will have very poor absorption rates.

Think of CBD molecules like a blob of oil. When this blob of oil enters your stomach, it’s too large to pass through your gut lining and enter systemic circulation without being broken down by enzymes and passed along the the liver for processing.

Healed NYC uses a process called Nano-emulsification, in which we are able to take CBD and create nanoparticles of them that are so small, they can be absorbed into your bloodstream more efficiently than regular-sized particles of the same substance. Nanotechnology makes the particles water-soluble and extremely bio-available. Our body is 95 percent water, so the absorption of a water-compatible molecule is always going to be higher than an oil infusion. The smaller particles created by nanotechnology mean enjoying better results and no more wasting 90 percent of the product. This conversion process completely overcomes the first-pass effect, and allows CBD oil (and other similar compounds) to be consumed orally without sacrificing bioavailability. It allows Healed NYC to effectively use capsules as a form of precise CBD delivery. Taking capsules daily results in a CBD buildup in your body. Capsules have longer lasting results than the other options.

Topical Application (Healed NYC™ Balm)

When CBD oil is applied topically, or directly to the skin, it never reaches the bloodstream but can be absorbed through the skin’s surface to interact with nearby cannabinoid receptors. This allows the effects from topicals to be focused where they are needed most instead of you having to wait for the cannabinoids to travel throughout your body.

CBD cannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, and they enhance circulation and cellular regeneration.

As a topical agent, CBD oil can be directly applied to certain areas of the body as an effective means of relieving pain and soreness, reducing inflammation, and soothing inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema. It is advised that topical users should titrate the amount used until the desired result is reached. CBD in topical form is a useful alternative for those who would like options besides the over-the-counter steroid-based creams typically used for arthritis, joint pain, and similar ailments. Most users find that regular application provides an analgesic effect significantly reduces localized discomfort.

Healed NYC’s balm contains lavender and eucalyptus

Lavender essential oil has a very powerful antiseptic properties. Applying it to wounds can not only increase cell growth causing the wound to heal faster, but it also decreases the appearance of scars. The oil’s anti-microbial action protects scrapes and wounds from infection, while allowing them to heal.

The germicidal properties in eucalyptus protects any open wounds in the skin from infection. It can even be used as an ointment for insect bites or stings as well as an insect repellant.

Healed NYC™ Water Solubles

Healed NYC™ water solubles are added to any hot/cold beverages or liquids. Water solubles use Nanotechnology, creating a higher bioavailability. They can be mixed with any liquid without affecting its potency. Because the body can directly absorb a much higher percentage of the cannabinoids and terpenes with water soluble CBD, there is more benefits than taking other CBD oils. Another benefit is they mix with the liquids they are added to, rather than sitting on top of the surface.

What Effect Could CBD Have on Other Medications?

Consult a doctor before ingesting

If you are told not to have grapefruit while on your medication, you should not mix CBD with it.

When ingested, CBD is chiefly metabolized by CYP3A4, one of the enzymes that helps metabolize many different medicines. This enzyme is the reason why you should avoid grapefruit when taking antibiotics or other body altering drugs, as those substances can limit CYP3A4’s ability to work, preventing the breakdown of medicines and causing a much larger amount to be broken down at a later time.

In effect, if someone is taking other pharmaceutical medication alongside CBD, this blocking action may impede the prescription drug’s metabolism, resulting in higher levels in the bloodstream and possibly toxicity.

It would be prudent therefore if you are taking CBD alongside certain other prescribed drugs, to inform your doctor so they can look out for any changes in the levels of medication in your blood, as an adjustment in dosing regime might be necessary.
